mediaplayers don't play sound

Hey,

there is no sound when i play a movie.
the only mediaplayer that plays the audio is kaffeine.
amarok plays mp3 just fine.
Al the rest does not.
Not vlc, (s)mplayer.
An avi,mp3 or mkv file it does not matter.
I have installed all restricted codecs but i had to doe it 2 times,
the first time I did it the 1click method, but the installation whas interrupted.
could this be the problem?

i don’t know because i am new at this
but if i were you i would go to google.com and look this problem up and see what is wrong!
if you find out what is wrong than great.
