Media playback

Hi, im having trouble viewing videos on VLC, Kaffeine and Xine.

First, VLC crashes when i start watching a video.
Kaffeine and Xine just freeze.

I had all these players working flawlessly for like 2 months till about 1 week more less ago. I followed the Media installation guides around this forums.

THanks

You have a varied amount of enabled and disabled repo’s.

But of note - with reference to your issue. VLC should be Disabled!
Then do an unconditional update in Packman.

See how you get on after that.

Ok, i disabled VLC repo, and did an “update if newer version available”. There were none.

I said unconditional ! Different;)
Accept any vendor change to Packman

This is what i get after running vlc on /usr/bin

I take it this was posted before you have tried Unconditional update?

before and after gave the same result

and this is what i get when opening a file:

Any reasons why you dont just use MPlayer with the SMPlayer GUI? TBH, VLC is one of the buggiest and crappies players around

This is true.
Mplayer - SMPlayer = Great

But you still need to manage your repos better

Not real reason, I was just used to VLC under Windows XP, which worked awesome.
I like the VLC GUI over MPlayer by far.

How should i handle my repos?

First tell me if you know why I asked you to disable VLC or why you have eg: Firefox disabled but refreshing.

I believe its because of different version on Packman repos and VLC repos?

Ive got no idea on the firefox thing, i just read somewhere that the lesser repos activated, the better?

OK. You get the idea.
But of all those you have FFox is probably the safest.

Please try this. Change the priority of Packman to 20
And now update Packman repo.

You are using kde42 repo’s so you may need to watch for amarok switching to a version you don’t want. It just depends what you are using ATM.

Then using software management filter by repo go through your ‘system’ filter and look for red packages. Use the version Tab to see if it is orphaned, ie; when you select it and look in the version Tab it will show the version number but no provider. These can be deleted (except libdvdcss).

Hmm ok, got to the point where i dont know what to do.

Yast if offering me to change architecture for gstreamer, from x86_64 to i586

Please post the complete dependency error. Use the expert button in the box, save it to a .txt file and then copy it here.
