media files in opensuse 11 rc1 64bit system

Hey, guys

Is anyone using rc1 64bit currently? I just want to know what kind of situation on compatibility with media files (rmvb, encrypted DVD, wmv, avi, mov, flash etc.)? Is the one-click install codec for rc1 good enough to handle these files or I have to get specific 32bit version application, such as mplayer & firefox to finish the job?

Thanks!

You can get everything you need by adding the packman community repository.
You will need to install the libdvdcss2 library to beable read encrypted
dvd’s. It’s not on packman, but could be made available if you can’t find
a copy.

It’s on videolan… which (at least on 10.3) is a community repo.

Depending on what you have installed, even css2 may not be required,
but usually safe to have for completeness.

thax for the infor. However I want to know specific situation under 64bit system.

For me there’s been no issues with dvd’s, avi, mpeg, swf, mp3, wmv using rc1 and the Packman repos

Can’t speak for 11.0 yet, but everything works fine for me
64bit (totally 64bit) using 10.3. However, OpenJDK (64bit version
for a 64bit browser) doesn’t handle all Java applets well.

But no problems with multimedia (wmv, avi, etc).

Thax for the infor on multimedia and also thax for remainding Java. 64bit system still have problem with Java?

Everything works fine with rc1 64 bit version media file wise - java generally works well in konqueror too.

With 10.3 I used to use firefox (32 bit version) for the odd java based site that would not work with konqueror but I have not had any success so far running the 32 bit version of firefox with rc1.

Please be careful when you use the 1-click codec Installation from opensuse-community.org
It did not work for me with 64 bit - tried to bring my system down to 32bit.

how does that happen? Did you install 32bit lib by default so 1-click codec installation behave like that?

I think he tried to fulfill some dependencies and this caused a chain reaction. Havent tried it again instead installed it manually from packman.
