Maya 3D on Opensuse

hi everyone

I decided to give Opensuse Linux a try, but I don’t know wether it runs Maya 3D for Linux since it runs RPM packages like Fedora, or it has a problem doing that ?!

Doesn’t anybody have a clue about that ?

Thanks in advance

I have never run Maya myself but I found this one post here that might help.

http://forums.opensuse.org/forums/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/473896-maya.html

and this for Fedora:

Installation guide for Maya 2013 on Linux Fedora 14 | PixelCG Tips & Tricks

If you get it to work, you could add onto the openSUSE post with anything else you want to add.

Thank You,

Thanks very much  . I know it works on Fedora because the company calls the version Maya for Fedora Linux. But I was wondering wether it works on Opensuse like Fedora since Opensuse is also RPM based too. The problem is that Opensuse is different, so I hope the command I found in the thread you posted helps and fixes the whole stuff.

But hey, could you kindly explain what this command does exactly ?! I am not professional and I am still not familiar with lib commands :expressionless:
Thanks in advance

When I search on Search I get two entries saying

**python-[b]Maya**vi

*3D visualization of scientific data in Python*

I guess you did the same and that it is not what you are after. But you didn’t say you did any search, thus in case …

In the past I have installed the rpm packages for Fedora, and they worked fine on openSUSE. But I’m not on track where it concerns differences between Fedora and openSUSE.
Helped out a user in this thread http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/471708-autodesk-maya-2012-a.html maybe it’s helpful for you too.
