I want to upgrade my existing sata3 drives to larger ones. What is the maximum size sata3 drive I can get Opensuse 13.1 to recognize?
Depends on the partitioning GPT or legacy/DOS. Legacy max is in the 2 TB. GPT more then any drive yet made 9 ZB
I want much larger partitions than 2 GB. I’m looking at 5 or 6 TB drives, and want to save audio and video files. I’ve already got a 4 GB Seagate Drive, but I can only remember there were some difficulties reformatting it in ext3.
Thanks, Bob
Hi
If your not using it to boot from, set to gpt and format as required (ext4/xfs) and you should be fine for that and it’s backup duplicate…
2 TB is the max disk size supported in DOS partitioning. It is not a max partition size it is a matter of the number of sectors supported. So you need to use GPT on any drive bigger then 2 TB. It really is not an option.
