Hi to all ,from Western Australia.
As post states, many personal questions, upon registration, like address, phone number, member of many forums, not computer orientated, have not been asked before for this.
Not an issue, just curious.
First time user of openSUSE.
I’m not sure I understand what you are asking, or if you are asking.
For myself, I needed to create a Novell login account a long time ago, when Novell was known for network software. My university was using that software, though I didn’t personally care for it.
My memory is a tad hazy, but I vaguely recall that lots of information was required to create the Novell login. Many businesses do that, perhaps as part of their marketing strategy.
When it came time for me to join opensuse forums, I discovered that I could use that already existing Novell account for login.
(I was born, and grew up in Western Australia. My BSc is from UWA. But, by now, I guess I’m a certified Yank.)

Because you hit on the old Novell business registration link. There is
another registration link for openSUSE that is less intrusive. I think
it is this one:

Many people object to the insane amount of private questions that the
register formulary asks in order to get an account at these forums.
These forums for an open source product are unique in this behaviour,
so many newcomers complain, and some even go away: as they refuse to
give all that private info, they can not register and can not ask in the
forum.
This is because the registration at the forums is the same as the
registration for Novell business products (now attachmate), and it is
they who want that information, not openSUSE.
But there is another registration link that bypasses all those questions.

Thats what I have done, registered in the wrong section.
Note to self , read what is in front of you.
