Many many "mei_me reset: connect/disconnect timeout." kernel errors

Hi,

what’s going on here. I have many many errors like shown below (the first errors I get at boot, slowing my boot for ~30s, and also afterwards the lines/errors are there in dmesg :\

Hi
If your not using the management interface, then disable it in your
system BIOS option. Else probably blacklist the offending module.

What hardware are you using?

What is a “management interface”!? So don’t knowing what it is I think I don’t use it, so search for “management interface” in the BIOS and disable it (or how is it called there)?

Well my post do not solve it but it’s a known problem: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=852656

I had the same problem. Plus I had nowhere in bios to turn it off and I’m not proficient enough to rebuild the kernel. I did, however this temp fix:
in your /etc/modprobe.d/99-local.conf, add the following two lines:

blacklist mei_me
blacklist mei

I no longer get a bloated message.log. I’m on a rebuilt Lenovo ThinkCentre dual-core and openSUSE 13.1. Hope this helps you as well.

Same here… did blacklist the modules, the messages are gone now but the booting process stops at the same sequenz and is blocked about half a minute as before, I only don’t get the mei_me messages anymore :shame:

# dmesg -xT -l err,crit,emerg
kern :err : [Mo Mai 19 09:02:26 2014] dmar: IOMMU: failed to map dmar0
kern :err : [Mo Mai 19 09:02:38 2014] kvm: disabled by bios
kern :err : [Mo Mai 19 09:02:38 2014] kvm: disabled by bios

Hmm, do you have a VT or VT -d setting in your bios. If so, disable it. Might be under the 'Advanced" tab. Not to be confused with “Intel Virtualization Technology” which should be enabled. That should get rid of the IOMMU error. If you are still getting the kvm errors, you might try adding to your blacklist file:

blacklist kvm
blacklist kvm_intel
blacklist kvm_amd

There is an update today, which mentions MEI in the release notes.

Yes, I have two entries with VT and they were disabled already :expressionless:

Did that kernel update but that doesn’t solve anything here :’(
