New install. Where the hell did the man pages go?
This might be a clue:
linux-s5ud:~ # man ifconfig
If ‘man’ is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this:
cnf man
By any chance did you install gecko-linux? if so they are not includes by default (save space) can be installed from repo. If not then please expand the problem
I’m just getting started doing this on my own. Can you please guide me on installation from repo?

Starting from the top. Open a terminal window and run some commands…
- Which openSUSE version did you install?
cat /etc/os-release
- Let’s check your configured repos
zypper lr -d
If you have network connectivity and the appropriate repositories configured then it may be as simple as installing the man package using
sudo zypper in man

Did you try running ‘cnf man’?
You need to install the ‘man’ package.

You have choosen to tell us you use an OTHER VERSION.
The fact that choosing the openSUSE version you use is the first and thus prominet item to do when you start a thread should also communicate to you that when you have an OTHER VERSION (and thus not supperted), you should at least start your post telling which one!
I can assure you that the man command was available on all openSUSE version used by me until now. LIke it was on all other Linux distributions I occasionally used and the same for all other Unices that came into my life.
Thus I am very curious about what your OTHER VERSION is.
Gecko-Linux does not include man by default
If zypper command does not bring it in (it should) use Yast- Software management and search for man. Start yast from menu or if yast from command line for text version

That solves the ‘other release’ issue. man pages are fixed now too…thank you for your help.
Well, no, not really. But, it appears you are using GeckoLinux, to me. Are you? You never did answer that question, which gogalthorp asked you in post #3 and Henk indicated he wanted to know – as in what “Other Version” did you install?
Why not just give a straight answer to at least that question, so we know and can relate the problem and solution to the correct environment?
I would like to know, as I am sure many others would.
