mame .145 and gnome-video-arcade will not recognize roms???

I’ve tried everything I can think of. I’ve installed mame .145 and gnome-video-arcade from I think the games repository, and when I run gnome video arcade its only showing one rom H63484.

My roms are in a custom location, and I’ve added that location to my rompath in /etc/mame/mame.ini

If I do a ‘gnome-video-arcade --inspect rompath’ it shows me the correct folder, but its not showing me the roms…

Can the path in the rompath line have a space in it? If not, what do I need to do to allow spaces?
Does the rompath line accept the ~ for home or must I use the $HOME designator?
Can I point the rompath to a symlink (or a link created via right-click on folder->make link)?
Do my roms have to all be unzipped to work or can they exist as zip files just as they are downloaded?

Sorry for so many questions…thanks in advance for the help!

Try advancemamae from the same repo. It works for me.
