Making a Live USB Stick

Slightly confused regarding the “live” terminology here. Is this to run Linux off the USB stick or to install from a USB stick. Hopefully the latter as I’m wanting to install onto a netbook which of course doesn’t have a CD/DVD drive.

“Live” means “run off the USB stick”. See “LiveCD” for similar usage.

You can do an installation from the “live” version as well, or you can
use isohybrid to convert the DVD ISO to a format that can be used to
install from a flash drive (that’s how I did my three systems here).
