MakeMKV - fatal error in Tumbleweed

I’ve twice emailed the PackMan mailing list (first time 2 days ago), but my email is not showing, so I thought I’d post here for info.

glibc 2.36 reached openSUSE Tumbleweed in the 20220827 snapshot. The message “Fatal error occurred, program will now exit.” now appears when
launching MakeMKV, and the application is unusable. This is the case for both v1.17.1-1.5 and the recent update v1.17.1-1.6 in the PackMan repository.

There is discussion of this on the MakeMKV forum https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=28856 and on the Arch AUR page https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/makemkv.

A workaround is to install the Flatpak version - https://flathub.org/apps/details/com.makemkv.MakeMKV.

Yes, I noticed this too after upgrading to 20220831.

I installed the makemkv source dependency files via

sudo zypper si -d makemkv

and built the program via the source mentioned here https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224 but it still crashes.

Now reading up on my ffmpeg notes

Tumbleweed was upgraded to 20220906 today and makemkv was included in the upgrade. No change - bug still exists.

As a stop gap I created a qemu/kvm VM with Fedora 36. Makemkv works there.

A fix will have to come from MakeMKV, check https://www.makemkv.com/download/ for an new release. After that a new makemkv packman package has to be build.

Makemkv has been fixed by the dev and released as 1.17.2.

Now available in the packman repo.
