make opensuse lts

hi

Why not make opensuse “lts” (same Ubuntu ) ?

I think it’s a great idea

The “evergreen” project does that. And opensuse 13.1 is scheduled to go evergreen when it reaches the end of normal support.

“We’re all in this together, I’m pulling for you” Red Green

This is clealy NOT a suggestion for the forums, but for the product openSUSE.

Will be moved to General Chitchat and is CLOSED for the moment.

Moved from Forums comments/Suggestions and open again.

Thanks all for explanation:)

but i can not install software weth “evergreen” :frowning:
Example : playoninux + wine + cenammon desktop!! :frowning:

When you have a techical problem/question, ask in the techinal help section, in this case in Alternative Distributions Based on openSUSE > Tumbleweed.

The chance that those who know more about Tumbleweed see you post is much better over there then here. Specialy if you add a good telling title to your new thread.

Wait, he said “evergreen”, not “tumbleweed”. We do not have an Evergreen
subforum here.

On the other hand, Evergreen is now in standby, as 11.4 Evergreen is
finally EOL. People using that should migrate/upgrade ASAP to 13.1.
which will eventually have extended support from Evergreen when the time
comes.

On the other hand, bis, I doubt that Evergreen is appropriate for
gaming; you’d rather need the newest and supported that you can get.

Interesting. So does this mean openSUSE presently has no Evergreen version? In which case it looks as if deciduous
openSUSE bears leaves more permanently than evergreen!

Sorry, must have been late :shame:

About the 11.4 Evergreen: Fwd: [Evergreen] openSUSE 11.4 Evergreen status - News and Announcements - openSUSE Forums

In short it means that when you now install 13.1, you join the Evergreen of today.

i can not install software evergreen to…

No, you don’t understand.

Currently, 13.1 is under normal maintenance by SUSE employees ( the
security team, specially), and other volunteers and contributors, for a
period of 18 months nominally, sometimes more (13.1 about 6 more, I lost
count).

When normal maintenance ends, then the Evergreen team takes over and
continues maintenance for a year and a half more.

Between both teams, the versions selected to be “Evergreened” are
maintained 2*18 months.

openSUSE LTS is different from other distributions in that it is not
supported by the same team the full time.

So now, as the Evergreen team ended 11.4 extended maintenance, and they
are waiting for the 13.1 extended maintenance to start, they are idling.
But 13.1 is an Evergreen, aka LTS, version.

By the way: they need contributors. The core team is just two people.
