Make openSUSE 11.4 installation on USB drive read-only (i.e. live system)

I want to install a openSUSE 11.4 system on a USB stick, configure it to my needs, install some extra software and then make it read-only and use it as a live system.

How do I do it?

I don’t expect a detailed instruction, just some hints what to look for or where I should expect trouble would be great!

this google search string, using your words to search the openSUSE wiki:

site:en.opensuse.org read only live UBS stick

returned 30 million hits…number one is
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Live_USB_stick

is that useful?

Create your own live image, use “dd” to write it to a USB device, and that’s it. It takes a couple of hours and attempts to get the hang of it, but it works great. I made one with Tumbleweed addition, still needs some tweaking and tuning, but it does what I wanted it for: have a bootable USB Live environment with everything on it that I need.
