Hello,
after installing openSUSE 11 on my laptop “SAMSUNG R60 plus”, after installing madwifi for openSUSE 11 via YaST2 and after blacklisting ath5k the “dmesg”-command delivers following information concerning the Atheros Chipset:
dmesg | egrep ‘ath|wifi|hal’
ath_hal: module license ‘Proprietary’ taints kernel.
ath_hal: 0.9.18.0 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413, RF5413)
ath_pci: 0.9.4
wifi%d: unable to attach hardware: ‘Hardware revision not supported’ (HAL status 13)
The command “lspci” gives the following information:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
The commands “iwconfig” and “ifconfig” show no wireless extensions.
Page HCL/Network Adapters (Wireless - openSUSE gives the following information concerning chipsets
Chipset Type Bus Driver

Atheros AR242x 802.11abg PCI/Cardbus madwifi

ok You will need to install madwifi hal (>0.10.5.6, check
with modinfo ath_hal), and then blacklist ath5k. Reboot,
and it should work.
On page snapshots.madwifi.org: special snapshots I found the file madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3698-20080604.tar.gz but without the help of YaST2 I do not know how to install software and need assistance. Can you please tell me, how to install the snapshot madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3698-20080604.tar.gz on an “openSUSE 11” distribution?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Kind regards.
