Mac Section

Just wondering if it would be possible to get a Mac section to make it easier to find Mac related issues regarding openSuSe installs?

Are there a lot of differences between Mac installs and the usual since Macs moved to Intel? Or are you referring to the older Macs such as the G3 and G4 series?

Don’t know that there’d be enough traffic to warrant its own section.
Since the newer Macs are Intel-based systems, not sure as well that the
challenges are that different…

fairly easy to find with a carefully shaped google search, including a
“site specifier” like:

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aforums.opensuse.org+install+Mac
or
http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aforums.opensuse.org+install+Mac+-mini
or
http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aforums.opensuse.org+install+“Macbook+Pro”
or
http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aforums.opensuse.org+install+iMac

enjoy, and have a lot of fun…

That may be a good post to put stickied to the top of the forums or something; “How to search the forums” or “How to search for help” which could include better ways to search the forum (though they are pretty straight forward) as well as how to use Google for this.

I don’t know how many people know or think of being able to filter Google to specific sites. (of course one could Google that, I assume  )

You seem to be more familiar (heck, how many times do you tell ME to Google it?! ) so you might have some additional tricks up your sleeves, and or know what may not work.

Just a thought.

my thoughts:

  1. these are the openSUSE forums, and not the How To Use Google forums

  2. the openSUSE forum (and Wiki) provides a search engine which can
(with some understanding) also provide useful information…for example,
see here the results of a search on “install mac” [126 threads found in
    0.57 seconds]: http://forums.opensuse.org/search.php?searchid=1231745

no, the problem is not a lack of search tools, or even a lack of
instructions at the top of each forum on how to use the search
tools…the problem is so many folks want it ‘easy’…

like, Would you please put all the post i might want to look at in one
place for me? then, we could have (for example) a Mac Forum, a Dell
Forum, a HP forum, a Nvidia Forum, a ATI forum, a . . .

and if we had that then someone would ask why we don’t have a (for
example) Mac Install Problems Forum, Mac How-To Install Forum, Mac
Install Successes Forum, Mac Install Tips and Tricks Forum, Transition
from OSX to KDE Forum, Transition from OSX to Gnome Forum . . .

and, if we had all of those and search instructions on every page we
would still have folks post: I searched everywhere but couldn’t find . . .
