M7, KDE 4.5, fish and sftp

Hi all.

Running the above on my laptop, been trying to get this working. And have not so far. The usage is, in the address bar:

fish://username@remoteip:ssh-port
sftp://username@remoteip:ssh-port

I’ve downgraded to KDE4 4.3 to see if fish and sftp would work, and they don’t, in the same way they’re not working in 4.5. Not in Dolphin, not in Konqueror. It looks like they connect, no errors given, but it always returns “0 items” in the status bar.

I see records in /var/log/messages on the remote PC I’m trying ro browse:

Jun 9 21:06:57 GjLzelF sshd[26817]: pam_unix2(sshd:auth): conversation failed
Jun 9 21:06:57 GjLzelF sshd[26817]: error: ssh_msg_send: write

On the local I see:

klauncher(2460)/kio (KLauncher): SlavePool: No communication with slave.

Can anybody confirm this? Or better, anybody has a solution for this?

Thanks in advance.

Just updated to KDE4 4.5 beta 2, problem still exists. Anybody?

sftp works for me mate
fish does not

So that’s a couple of problems I have :). Guess I’ve been messing around with it too much. I’d better reinstall M7 this weekend, test fish and sftp on the default install, upgrade to 4.5 beta 2 and see what happens. Keeps me from the streets

If you try gnome, does that connect OK.
Did you try konqueror, does that work differently?

Konqueror and sftp:
I get a login screen, enter correct username and password, I re-enter 3 times, Konqueror report an authentication error. I can login through ssh from a terminal perfectly, connect through sftp ditto, with same username and password.
It maybe a 64bit-only issue. I remember having this before, it solved itself after some updates. Beta 2 did not solve it anyway.
Tried Konqueror in LXDE, same story. Will install Gnome now and see what that does. Maybe it works in KDE4 too after that
Truth remains, I’ve done a lot of messing around on the laptop.

sftp works in Gnome’s Nautilus. Cheers Caf. That’s brought it down to a KDE4 4.5 issue. BTW all is exactly the same on a clean new user account after a fresh boot.

Strange as I don’t seem to have the same as you.
BTW. Gnome for me works much quicker.

On my server I have both Gnome and KDE4 to use, and I use them both. I noticed some speed differences in moving files from one place to another. Gnome and sftp report higher speeds then Dolphin and Konqueror, the difference is bigger when it concerns a folder containing 10.000 small files. Looks like Gnome doesn’t care about the number of files and KDE4 does.

11.3-m7, KDE-4.4.3
fish works ok from dolphin and konqueror using ssh keys for authentication.

but trying to connect to:
Pre-Release/Beta - openSUSE Forums
with konqueror I get:

The requested operation could not be completed
Cyclic Link Detected

UNIX environments are commonly able to link a file or folder to a separate name and/or location. KDE detected a link or series of links that results in an infinite loop - i.e. the file was (perhaps in a roundabout way) linked to itself

Today’s updates from the factory repos included new Policykit packages, the problems described in the original post have disappeared, i.e. I can connect to any place using fish:// or sftp:// on my 64bit systems.
Which is great !! Thanks to the devs at kde.org and opensuse.org for solving this.
