M2?

March 8th has come and gone but no sign of M2. Any reports as to when it
is now expected?

A tiny clip from Coolo (Stephan Kulow):

“perhaps next week”

If one plays with milestones one really should follow the factory
mailing list.

I tend to disagree that milestone testers need to subscribe to the
factory mailing list just to get such basic information.

Not only for such information.
But that’s where all information of the development version is.

I daresay you’re right. Trouble is, I’m tied in to quite a few
mailing-lists already and if I add another I’m worried I might suffer
from RSI from clicking on “delete” too often.

Anyway, I’ve subscribed. Thanks.

90% of the traffic is useless for milestone testers.
But you did not get my point, I provided the link to the browsable
mailing list archive, so no need to subscribe.
While testing a milestone one can for that short period in time have a
quick look at that if some interesting info is there. The generic link
is http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/
The time difference between someone sending a mail and it being archived
there is usually only a few minutes.

And I talked about following.
I didn’t say anything about subscribing.

You can sort the emails automatically in one folder per mail list. Then
months later you delete them in bunches. Or archive them.

Thanks for that idea, plus Malcolm’s suggestion of gmane.org.

I’m curious if M2 will default to grub2 instead of legacy grub, and curious as to what sort of choice (grub2 or legacy ? ) will be offered on the liveCD and also offered on the DVD ?

I’ve come to the conclusion I am woefully unprepared technically for grub2 introduction, and while fighting a miserable head cold, and currently heavily loaded at work, I am also trying to teach myself and grasp some basics of grub2, so as to be ready for M2 (or M3 ? ) introduction of grub2 into openSUSE. I have a thread going on here on this subject: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/pre-release-beta/473222-any-grub2-tidbits-pass-12-2-may-default-grub2.html

Testing the latest factory iso’s grub2 is the default but Yast2 doesn’t want to install it you are given a choice

I failed today miserably with the netinstall iso (it just says that
factory/repo/oss is not a valid repo), which one did you use - one of
the live CD’s?

The inability of the NET iso to connect to the Internet is one of the reasons M2
is delayed.

You should check http://openqa.opensuse.org/cgi-bin/currentresults before trying
any unreleased build. Clicking on the magnifying glass will bring up a page of
screen snapshots. Clicking on any of them will show you the details.

The latest NET install (Build 241) still has the problem; however, the Gnome
Live CD (also Build 241) appears to install correctly. The KDE Live CD for Build
241 has not yet been tested.

A correction: The KDE Live CD has not built since #232.

I ad checked that since I also tried the netinstall of 12.1 which does
not suffer from this problem, one can easily replace the repo url with
the factory one and it connects downloads the installer part from
factory and then fails later by telling me that the repository content
is invalid.
I do not mind too much that all this fails since I postpone my tests
until MS2 appears, but I wondered what the reason might be.

I used the m1 net iso make sure at the boot screen f4 http the repo is download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss .
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.2-Milestone1/repo is empty

Now that I read my post agin I feel so stupid, of course I wanted to use
the MS1 net iso and change the repo url not what I wrote and what I did
using the 12.1 net iso. I feel so ashame.
With the MS1 netinstall iso it seems to work.

Thank you I somehow missed that post. I already did that the factory
repo url is of course the same as the one I used with the 12.1
netinstall I used due to whatever strange reasons in my brain today.
But the whole thing failed now when formatting the HD with LVM and a
/boot partition (ext4). Since I run out of time now, I will simply wait
a week.
