LyX is not showing up

Simple commands such as ufw aren’t working and LyX is not showing up. What to do. I am getting these. I have installed leap 15.1 from a usb installer.
som@linux-ua26:~> ufw status
If ‘ufw’ is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this:
cnf ufw
som@linux-ua26:~> lyx

Did you install ufw with YaST or zypper? It’s not in a default Leap installation AFAICT:

sudo zypper install ufw

Same goes for lyx.

Installed LyX with YAST, but didn’t install ufw. Maybe that’s why ufw is not showing up .

I think I know where the problem is, the connection I used was a compromised one, namely that of my phone. I think if I do it again with the home wifi, it might work. What do you say?

Hurray, installed LyX again, using the home wifi and it showed up.

And do not double post. The other one is deleted.

Actually, that error message gave good advice.

% cnf lyx

The program 'lyx' can be found in the following package:
  * lyx  path: /usr/bin/lyx, repository: zypp (repo-oss) ]

Try installing with:
    sudo zypper install lyx

The command “cnf” (stands for “command not found”) knows about many commands and what package you need to install to have that command.

For some reason, zypper up downloaded the opensuse repo version of latex files (texlive) a couple of days during a normal update. It took me 2 days to get them deleted. I have no use for them.
Be prepared that there are about 2200 files totaling nearly 2 gig.

Assuming that, your mobile telephone is fairly new and, you’re not attempting to use a telephone network older that 3G (UMTS), the data transfer should have been reliable enough.
Be aware that, it’s better to use 4G (LTE) networks for this sort of thing …

  • Also, assuming that, you have a flat rate data volume contract with your Mobile Network Operator (MNO).
  • If your contract has a data volume limit then, there’s no guarantee that, the RPM Packet download will be failure free if, you’re nearing the limit on the data volume …
