Using openSUSE 12.1 and lyx-2.0.1-8.1.2.x86_64…rpm
When I try to open .lyx files I created myself in 2011 or earlier, LyX
complains with an error message box. It says that “the file is from a
different version of lyx, but the script lyx2lyx failed to convert it”.
On the terminal I get:
>
> cer@Telcontar:~/Documents/lyx/La isla misteriosa> lyx La\ isla\ misteriosa.lyx &
> [1] 22284
> cer@Telcontar:~/Documents/lyx/La isla misteriosa> LyX: Unknown tag ` hesaurusdir_path' [around line 24 of file /usr/share/lyx/lyxrc.dist]

Deleting the entire “~/.lyx/” directory and trying again gets a similar
result:

Tried with several lyx files - which by the way, open fine in my laptop
running 11.4 (and lyx 1.6.9)
I can create, save and open new .lyx files, just not my old ones.
What can I do?

You could try with a even newer Lyx (it sounds like a bug) if it works,
the Publishing repository for 12.1 has 2.0.5.
If you do not want to clutter your installation I would try in a VM first.
Sorry no better idea.
Btw the warnings you see should just be warnings as in Lyx 2 several
tags were made obsolete and should simply be ignored but not lead to an
unreadable document.

I’ll try that.
It is not much advanced than the default 2.0.1, though. Even 12.3 has
the same version, 2.0.5. Has LyX development stalled? :-?
I’ll report later on what I get. I have to do some real-life chores
first

No, no problem updating lyx, I think. I like the idea. Unless it also
requires to update the entire latex chain…

Perhaps I might try the lyx2lyx script directly, if I knew which one it
is :-?

I found an old lyx file which was created with version 1.1 (looking at
the first line in the file), it opened with Lyx 2.0.5, so maybe you have
also some luck using that version.

Thanks!
