LTO Drive on SUSE10

Hello,

We have a pre-built system in house that we use for media assets. It has an LTO-3 tape drive installed, but not in use. I would like to use that tape drive and mount it as an NFS point so I can write to it from a separate server.

  1. Is this possible?
  2. If so, whats my best solution?
  3. If not, how do i set up to write to it locally?

Thanks!

Tape drives cannot be mounted or exported as NFS partitions. It’s not a disk device. You can however use the rmt protocol to write to them remotely using tar among other possibilities.
