thx for help

Can we assume you have ethernet on this machine?

(Not related to your question, but you didn’t follow this) did you?
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide

Ideally you should remove repo #1 Videolan
Then do this:
http://tinyurl.com/yejwull

Back to your problem.
How did you install skype?
Have you rebooted?
What is result of:

/sbin/lspci -nnk

This command may help determine which packages were updated most recently:

rpm -qa --last

You’ll need to become root in a terminal first with 'su - ’ command. It will list in chronological order. The other thing to look at is your wireless device and driver (to get a handle on what is wrong):

/sbin/lspci -nnk
/usr/sbin/hwinfo --wlan

Hoping others can assist here.

Edit: Didn’t realise Carl had jumped in already… Thanks

I’m guessing it should have: iwl5100

Your device isn’t listed here:
HCL/Network Adapters (Wireless) - openSUSE

What do you get from

dmesg | grep firmware

Getting Your Wireless to Work

however:
7.748368] IBM TrackPoint firmware: 0x0e, buttons: 3/3
72.235380] iwlagn 0000:02:00.0: request for firmware file ‘iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode’ failed.

132.235242] iwlagn 0000:02:00.0: no suitable firmware found!

make sure you have this package installed

kernel-firmware

i do…
any suggestions?

I see this was a problem here:
request for firmware file ‘iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode’ failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2]

Have you tried rolling back
or perhaps as suggested here;
request for firmware file ‘iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode’ failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2]
