After running the recommended updates for my system (13.1 dual boot Win 8) in Opensuse, suddenly I got an error message for my root password. So I tried reinstall, but grub is not
recognizing the dvd, just allows to enter to Opensuse or Win8. When I checked out Bios from the Win 8 side, to see if it changed the booting sequence I’ve set up for being able to boot from a cd/dvd, it had only two options to boot, Grub and Win 8, no longer had the possibility to choose any other form.
My question is, is there a way to reset the root password without installing 13.1 once again, and if not, how can I make Grub recognize the dvd, or reinstalling without the dvd?

It is not grub task to recognize the DVD. That’s the BIOS or UEFI task.

Both questions have been already answered.
However, in order to edit grub so that it offers an entry for the DVD,
you have first to login, and work as root - so you can’t.

Thanks, both solutions did not worked for me, but remembered how to add the cd or dvd boot to the sequence, and started to install.
Unfortunately, during the install got a grub error message, now I cannot access my pc any way, because of grub. this is what I got when I try to boot:
Welcome to Grub
error: ‘/boot/grub2/x86_64.efi/normal.mod’ not found
entering rescue mode
grub rescue >
Ok,
I could enter to Win8 by pushing F2 while booting, get to boot menu and change the booting aequence. and now I am in windows.
Probably the best solution will be a clean install of both systems now, to avoid any other complications.

Mmm. That was a mistake.
You should have waited for advice here, to analyze why you could not
recover your root’s password.
Now you have to wait for a grub 2 + uefi expert to guide you out.

Partly your right, I do need a grub2 UEFi expert, because I am unable to intsall opensuse on my laptop. But I am working in Windows environment, so after I reinstalled Win8, at least I can
work without problems, just don’t have an additional operating system, which would be my preference.
Anyhow, after reintsalling my original Win 8, and then updating to Win 8.1 tried to install opensuse again. But I get the same Grub 2 error toward the end of the installation, with the error message:
/boot/efi should be mounted to the EFI partition on the drive. That is a small FAT formatted partition that holds the boot control files. It should alrready exist so it just needs to be mounted correctly
So check the partitions it should mount that EFI partition as /boot/efi and NOT format it
If the scheme says anything else fix it before proceeding
Also be sure you are installing grub2-efi not grub2 and that the secure boot box is checked.
I have a 100MB EFI System Partition - not written FAT under the file system,
the column is empty, others are NTFS.
How can I check grub2-efi?
because earlier I had no problem to install opensuse with the same dvd to the same system. This whole mess started
because I lost my root password, and tried to reinstall opensuse.
