After I put 11.0 to hibernate, I lost my network when the system woke up. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? How do I get back my network?
hi
i’m a newbie with the same problem in suse 11.1
have you received any solution for this problem?
“How do I get back my network?”
kernel 2.6.27.21.0.1.default
gnome 2.24.1
amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 4800+
can some help me?
thanks in advance
old-joe
have you tried opening a console & issuing the command
rcnetwork restart
you will have to su to root to run the command
Andy
i did it, ok with no reply
but:
ifcfg (Nicht verbunden)
MAC : 00:0f:ea:35:92:68
• Gerätename: eth0
• Automatisch bei Kabelverbindung gestartet
• IP-Adresse zugewiesen unter Einsatz von DHCP4
normal start (like now) says:
ifcfg
MAC : 00:0f:ea:35:92:68
• Gerätename: eth0
• Automatisch bei Kabelverbindung gestartet
• IP-Adresse zugewiesen unter Einsatz von DHCP4
joe
no one any idea???
where else can i get help?
old-joe
ps.
its not a laptop, normal desktop x86-64
The rcnetwork restart what deltaflyer44 suggested should work. From the other hand I faced with the same problem in 11.0 with my laptop, then this problem was fixed in 11.1.
If you don’t want to update the whole system, update your kernel at least.
Good luck.
thanks for your answer, but it is original oss 11.1
new and not updated
rcnetwork status says:
jo111@blechbuechse:~> gnomesu /sbin/rcnetwork status
Checking optional network interfaces:
eth0 device: nVidia Corporation CK804 Ethernet Controller (rev a3)
eth0 ifplugd is running
eth0 cable is connected
eth0 DHCP4 client (dhcpcd) is running
eth0 . . . but is still waiting for data
eth0 IP address: 192.168.178.41/24
eth0 waiting
pan0
No configuration found for pan0 unused
Checking mandatory network interfaces:
lo
lo IP address: 127.0.0.1/8
secondary lo IP address: 127.0.0.2/8
lo running
Checking service network . . . . . . . . . . . running
waiting and waiting aso
and so ifcfg says: “not connected”
any idea?
joe
Unloading kernel module (most probably the infamous “forcedeth” crap), loading module and then rcnetwork restart should work.
If that works, add the respective commands as extra hook as described here:
thanks alot, your answer looks great, but i understand only “bahnhof”
pls give me the commands en detail and i will try
heres what /var/log/pm-suspend.log says: does that help you??
hopefully
joe

i’m a newbie and need instructions in detail
Hi
If you try the following commands, does it work again?
sudo /sbin/rmmod forcedeth
sudo /sbin/modprobe forcedeth
sudo /sbin/rcnetwork restart
Also are you using network manager for your connection, if so try
changing to traditional and if using traditional, try network manager.
These changes can be made via YaST network settings.

I had the same problem in both 11.0 and 11.1
Never managed to solve it in 11.0 but in 11.1 you simply need to upgrade and change some components (that’s what worked here).
Try (using Yast)- upgrading the networkmanager , uninstall the included NetworkManager-kde package and install the networkmanager-kde4 package.
Add the widget to plasma and reboot.
(For Wifi)
After a hibernate, simply click the widget, and click the check to stop and the start the wifi.
(For normal)
Just click it and it will connect.
P.s It worked on Kde 4.2.

Try installing wicd. It handles wired and wireless connections very well:
Software.openSUSE.org
In my case it works like a charm, having the Networkmanager disabled in Yast (use ifup) and the wireless card to be activated Manually.
Disable power saving. It’s a a common issue.
hi friends
in these days, the new kernel 2.6.27.25-0.1.1(x86_64) was delievered. now the network is back automatically after hibernation and i don’t have to make the mentioned commands any longer
