loosing GUI after installing any package

Hi,

I have set up a cluster with VMWare Server. On the server node I have installed openSUSE 11.2 with Gnome.
I have added nfs-server, gcc, glib and make packages to it later.

Now whatever package I install on this machine I loose the GUI.

Can anyone tell me what could be the problem?

What do you mean when you say you “loose the GUI?” Is the xserver session terminating, bumping you to the command line? What packages are you installing that seem to be causing this?
