Looking GPU temp/fan monitoring tool

Hi everyone!

I am a complete beginner when it comes to Linux so bare with me.

I just started using OpenSuse, and I must say it is absolutely beautiful to work with. I recently managed to install my ATI-drivers and initiate Desktop Effect etc, but now I have a small problem.

Back on Windows I used RivaTuner to manage my GPU temp and fan speed, this is rather critical because my ATI hd3870 is a bit daft when it comes to temperature management, hence it tends to let the temp wander. As I am hoping to play some games on OpenSuse I want to make sure my card does not melt itself.

RivaTuner is out of the question, not even Wine can emulate the necessary files to make that work. But after looking around on the web I can’t seem to find a single program dedicated to GPU temp/fan monitoring.

Can anyone help me?

Don’t know. Even in windows I didn’t find anything very effective. I ended up removing the fan and replacing it with a heatsink. Never looked back!

Is there an ATI configurator?
For example (using KDE4.2), if I select Utilities - System -
Configuration - Nvidia X-Server Settings, it shows the GPU temperature
and other details. Perhaps there’s something similar for ATI?
