As the topic title states, when I logout, I get a black screen, and my computer freezes. I also get this when I switch sessions with CTRL+ALT+FX. I have an ATI Radeon HD 4570 with the drivers installed from the ATI repository (although I tried to fix it by uninstalling the drivers). I’ve already done some research, but haven’t found a solution.
Editting /usr/share/kde4/config/kdm/kdmrc by setting TerminateServer=true doesn’t help ( Arch Linux Forums / KDE 4 Log out problems ), since the crash also occurs when I restart X manually with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE.
Hi, pehaps black screen results in newly installed drivers, for me this was a sollution
reboot (hard if needed)
go to safe mode
logon screen should popout, then open command line
CTRL+ALT+F2 (if you still get black screen instead of logon screen try command line annyway)
logon as superuser (su-)
enter /usr/share/ati/fglrx.uninstall.sh
this should uninstall your driver and system must wake up normaly and you should also logon aswell
perhaps go to ati site and choose your version manualy and install it manualy.
if problem persists then this is all the help i can give you,you can still uninstall it with the same command above… then you need more experienced users .)
