Hello,
I like to got rid of my TV since decades and now I want to get rid of my stereo equipment.
The plan is to use OpenSuse for a real multimedia-center with high quality sound.
How can I use the Dolby Sourround 5.1 Equipment from Logitech Z901 for:
- Playing some Audio-CD
- Playing MP3
- Playing DVD Movies
- Playing videos from the web via firefox
Logitech Speaker System Z906Wher I found the right drivers or documentation, how I must set this up, so that it works?
Greetings,

Speaker System Z906 - Logitech Schweiz
Hello,
I tested the movie-playing feature with the VLC player with an THX-Dolby Sourround Movie THX and here under Linux the Logitech Speaker Sytem works plenty fine.
Why not for an normal Audio CD too?
Greetings,
So I have built HTPC’s before and I must say that if you mainly want to playback movies, get a DVD player, it will be much simpler to use. As for any PC, the heart of sound playback is your sound device, built-in or add-on. I use only Creative Sound cards and they work well with openSUSE, Linux and PulseAudio. I could not find LogiTech z901’s, but if a z906 is similar, it will work with any PC sound device providing spdif output in optical or RCA Coaxial formats. In the PulseAudio Volume Control, you must select the output type here:

I have a couple of blogs that can be helpful you can find here:
