Logitech QuickCam Messenger

Hello,

I have recently installed OpenSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.1. I need to use webcam for communication in sign language. However, I cannot run it with Skype.

I have Logitech QuickCam Messenger. System recognized the camera and automatically installed proper driver.

gqcam works fine with it.
amsn works fine with it.
luvcview says “…/dev/video0: unable to query device”
Skype seems to ignore it :frowning:

I have libv4l installed. As recommended here Mini HOWTO for WEBCAMS (gspcav driver) - openSUSE Forums I tried to start Skype from console with command “LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype” but problem is still the same.

Skype shows video device QCM USB Camera (/dev/vide0) but when I press Test button, nothing is displayed.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the exact same problem with a different webcam. I just figure it’s a Skype thing and, because they’re really slow on their Linux releases, we’ll have to wait a bit before it’s fixed.

I could be wrong though. However, in the meantime, I just drag my Skype friends over to MSN and use amsn for the webcams while we talk on Skype.

You might be right. OK, I will try to do the same, for many of my friends use MSN, too. Thank you for your reply!
Hope that LINUX world will be growing faster …

No problem. But as I said, I may be full of it. I suggest checking out the Skype forums on their site. If this really is a problem with Skype itself, there will definitely be posts about it. But there may be a workaround, too.
