Logitech quickcam driver for OpenSuse 11.2

Hi!

Can anyone tell me where to find a driver for my USB Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX for OpenSuse 11.2?

My camera was working fine on Skype, for example, with OS 11.1, but the driver is apparently not in the 11.2 distro packages.

Many thanks for your help.

In openSUSE 11.2 the output of;
lsusb
Bus 008 Device 002: ID 046d:08d7 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate
STX

and my webcam work out of the box.

That cam has to be supported by gspca module. Thats included in the kernel. Please check if you have that module included in your kernel

modprobe gspca

FATAL: Module gspca not found.

or was that not what you meant?

:?

Precisely those are my data from lsusb, but no such luck with the function!:frowning:

where is your gspca module? What is your Kernel?

uname -r

this is what i get:

2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop

I am missing gspca in your output. I’ll do a checkup of my kernel tonight and reply then again.

My lsmod looks like that:

gspca_spca561          11552  0
gspca_main             26752  1 gspca_spca561
videodev               39168  1 gspca_main

It seems to be that your webcam isnt supported anymore by gspca.
Maybe you like to write a bug report, but the site of the gspca developer says it is definitely supported. You can either submit a bugreport on bugzilla or contact the developer mailto:mxhaard@magic.fr . First check if your webcam is not broken!

Many thanks, Pilgervater!

The modules were supposedly all loaded with a fresh installation of 11.2, which I downloaded from the OS site and burned on DVD. So I do not know why there should be different gspca modules from yours. My camera is OK.

I didnt told you that i use a totally different type of Logitech cam which uses the same driver gspca. Gspca supports over 50 or more different webcams. I know you have the same driver like me, only your cam doesnt load gspca module. That could be a bug. Its not wrong that you ask the developer for help or write a bugreport.
If you like you can do a

dmesg

for me and i will look at it before you contact the developer.

My quickcam worked with out installing anything. Not well, it doesn’t seem to work at all with Skype, but it worked with Kopete, and gave video output. Not great video, but video nonetheless.

Hi Conram,

What modules are listed under gspca when you do a lsmod | sort?

Hi!
I got a Logitech USB-webcam;
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 046d:08ae Logitech, Inc. QuickCam for Notebooks

I’ve tried “lsmod | sort” but i dont have any “gspca” listed.
My kernel is;
2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop (64bits).

Anyone that have found out how to get this to work?

Probably your opensuse is 64 bit, meanwhile skype often is installed from 32 bit rpm.

Try to start skype in the following way:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

I think I would first try

modprobe gspca

and see if that helps.

If not, then follow bug number 558144.
