One of the options that are loading in failsafe and not in your regular bootup is causing the problem. You’ll need to figure out which one and add that option to your regular bootup options.
I’m trying to get my ps/2 mouse to work right now. I’m going to try to see if it also only works in failsafe. I’ll post back if I have the same issue and let you know if I find the fix, though my fix might be different.
If you find the fix, don’t forget to post it.
Well, my ps/2 mouse didn’t work in failsafe either, but I think I might know why yours does. When you boot into failsafe, your computer will try to use the Xserver settings from /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe instead of the usual /etc/X11/xorg.conf. For me, this failsafe version is missing, and I have to login and start X manually with startx. If you aren’t doing this, and its just loading a graphical system for you, then the difference between the two files probably holds your answer, and likely mine as well. You should post the contents of both of these files. I’m assuming you know how, so let me know if you need help with it.
I added the irqpoll option to my bootup options and now my PS/2 mouse works. Does your failsafe option use irqpoll? if it does, I’d say thats your fix. If not, try adding it to your regular boot to see if it works for you. If it does, ask for some help on making the change permanent. Good Luck.
