After upgrading 15.6 to 16 with zypper I am now locked out of the system. I cannot connect with ssh as it closes the connection after a minute and a console session at the box gives me the password prompt and returns a timeout message after 60 seconds.
If I launch into single user mode I can get in as root and running journalctl with the -e and -xb flags doesn’t show me anything that gives me a clue.
I even looked at doing a clean install but the agama installer is IMHO, garbage at the moment. I’d like to fix my existing setup if possible. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Showing full logs that include failed login attempts may give some clue to others.
How? Exact commands, please
Solved. I have no idea how or why but it just started working again. I checked config files against the rpm-new copies, ran journalctl -g pam, nothing there, checked var/log/messages, no hints there. I have yet to test that all the services are working but here’s hoping.
I have one more server on 15.6 where it will stay until the end of support.
And the problem came back after the next reboot so I solved the problem permanently with ubuntu server LTS. As an opensuse user since 1999 it is sad in a way. If opensuse ever sort out partitioning in the mess that is Agama I might migrate this box back. Until then, tschuss.
