Hi,
Whenever I log in the default login scren appears but when i log off to switch from normal user to root or vice versa my log in screen doesnt appear. instead the whole laptop screen turns white and displays some distinct coloured lines. The same thing happens when i shut down. Weird lines in white background appear then finally my laptop shuts down. I have via diaplayHC9 adapter. Some days back when i was using 10.3 i didnt get a GUI in a normal session and only in failsafe i got gui. I ran xdm as root in failsafe and sax2 opened up and asked me to reconfigure. Since then even after upgrading to opensuse 11 i have this problem of my laptop screen going blank or displaying weird colored lines on loggin off. NOTE:_nnect an external crt monitor to laptop i could see the login screen after loggin off without any color lines… ( When I tried to run UBUNTU live cd i got the same problem. )
I think you might go to <system> <lookand feel><screensaver><powermanagement>and <onACpower> = “NEVER” and Display for whatever. On the General tab, set power button to “Shutdown” and suspend button to “Do nothing”.
You can also follow the same line of action in the power management console. You can also got to the /etc/sysconfig Editor in Yast and check the config files. Eliminate suspend.
If that doesn’t improve things, post back with detailed equipment list so someone can offer advice.
> when i log off to switch from normal user to root
please do not do that!
instead, learn how to do all root duties by using YaST or the command
line interface…it is not that hard…and, it can save a LOT of
problems…
maybe even causing the problem which suddenly appeared on your machine…
why? got tired of writing it, so now it is at: http://tinyurl.com/6ry6yd
