I just heard back that the guys who manage that stuff think they’ve found
and fixed the problem - can you let me know if you see it again?

Thanks!

I had one isolated appearance at the weekend but otherwise none for several days.

Sounds good - the fix was put in place yesterday I’m told, so over the
weekend it wouldn’t surprise me if someone ran into it.

Let’s see how it goes this week - I’ve told them I’ll consider the issue
resolved if we can go a week and not run into it. :slight_smile:

Bad news - this gremlin is out to tease us no end. Immediately after reading the last message, I logged out and got the message on the logout screen for the first time in a long time and this morning it reappeared on the login in screen.

Logged out - nothing; logged in - nothing. As I said, this gremlin sure likes having fun.

It was back this morning and I realised it might be more helpful to put up a screenshot of the details. These show a certificate granted to Novell from 2008 to 2013 but claim that the ‘root certifcate’ is invalid.

Shoot, thanks again for the feedback, will update the bug with this
information.

Very useful, thanks for this - will post this information into the bug as
well.

I had an isolated reappearance on Thursday and then again this evening (I normally log in twice a day).

I wondered if a snippet of HTML code might help to identify the server:

<title>openSUSE: Login</title>

<meta http-equiv=“Content-Type” content=“text/html; CHARSET=UTF-8” />
<meta http-equiv=“Content-Language” content=“en” />
<meta name=“author” content=“Jarid Love” />
<meta name=“date” content=“02 Aug 2005” />
<meta name=“Robots” content=“INDEX, FOLLOW” />
<meta name=“ada” content=“no” />

<style type=“text/css”>
@importhttps://secure-www.novell.com/common/inc/css/wiki.css”;

or whether this is irrelevant to the server used. The screen that prompts the messages always has a slightly darker green than the normal openSUSE green.

But checked the source code this morning when there was no message and it appears identical; so that doesn’t help.

Yeah, it’s a cluster of servers as I understand it, so the code should
all be the same on all of them.

An IP address might help, but you’d have to catch it probably with lsof
-i - I don’t think a DNS name will help (and it might be that it’s all
behind a L4 switch, in which case even an IP address won’t help much).

I’ll update the bug and note that you’ve seen it again.

Tried that today when there were no problems and it does indeed yield IP numbers; so I have made a note of those and will try again when I next encounter the message to see if there are any differences.

Ok This is what lsof -i displays when there are no problems:

Just got a note from the developer looking into it, and the lsof outputs
have been very helpful - he’s going to do some digging tomorrow morning,
but it seems that there’s a request somewhere that’s asking for http
rather than https and he believes that’s the underlying cause.

Thanks for your patience and assistance in tracking this down - I’m
probably away for the rest of the week for the US Thanksgiving holiday,
but I’ll check on Monday and see how the bug is progressing.

One question that has come up in diagnosing this is which browser you’re
using, and if you can duplicate with more than one?

I’m now on Firefox but didn’t get any error messages. I use Konqueror routinely, since before I joined the forum, and I started this thread when the messages first appeared on this forum.

It has occurred before on the Build Service, but not on the main site or Bugzilla or any other openSUSE or Novell related sites, and recently on a website in the city of London but I use Konqueror intensively because of the research I do and must have been on hundreds of sites all over the world over the past few years. Yet the error messages have only ever appeared on three sites, this being the third.

Over the past weekend, I have had error messages nearly every time I logged on - which is probably the most intense period since I first reported the issue but I have had none on logging off for several days.
