Login Screen Borked

Running SUSE 10.2. Everything has been fine for a couple of years and last night it crashed. I powered it down. After booting up, I can no longer log in at the login screen. All of the keys except the keypad, have been mapped to change the display resolution and I can no longer type in a password.

I can log in via the console and startx and everything works as normal. Obviously a config file somewhere is corrupt … but which one???

Thanks in advance
