Something pretty dumb is happening to me: when I start my system (latest Opensuse under KDE 4) everything seems to work until… the screen fades to black… and all I can do is “control alt supp” to reboot. What in the world is going on there!?! I can’t use my system anymore… any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Try Ctrl+Alt+Bksp a couple times in quick succession to see if you can
at least restart the GUI. Otherwise check /var/log/messages and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log for anything relevant.
Good luck.

Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux)
Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org
Quite possibly a KDE 4 problem. This page discusses updating it KDE/KDE4 - openSUSE (and many threads here). If you need to update from the command line, use zypper Zypper/Usage/11.0 - openSUSE.
I had the same problem after install new drivers for Video (some addons with “plasma monitor”).
my solution is to pres alt+ctl+del logout and boot under KDE3/
KDE4 is not stable version as for me IMXO.
