Hello All,
I am using OpenSuse version 12.3.
I am facing a problem in accessing the GNOME desktop despite successful login with usernames. This problem initiated after doing the following:
Today I ran a command 'zypper update" and then rebooted the computer.
I can successfully login using console terminal.
Could anybody help me out of this problem.
Thanks in advance!!!

Do you have a login screen or a login prompt?
What graphics device do you have?

Hi,
Thanks for your time.
Yes, I have a login screen/prompt.
**I have nVIDIA graphic card.
**
How did yo install the NVIDIA driver? You may need to reinstall it.
Also always tell the model of the card since there may be differences in what you need to do.

I had installed nvidia using the YAST
I am sorry for not providing the exact version of nvidia in the preceding post.
The nvidia version I got after running command ‘cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version’
NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 304.117 Tue Nov 26 21:25:36 PST 2013
GCC version: gcc version 4.7.2 20130108 [gcc-4_7-branch revision 195012] (SUSE Linux)

So does your system boot to a graphical login screen, or does it drop back to text mode?
Does recovery mode work? (“Advanced Options” in the boot menu)
