Login problem after network downtime

Hello all

I had a curious problem today and I can’t seem to find any useful information.
We have a mail server running OpenSuse 10.3 and after some extended network downtime (local network was ok but our link to the outside world was down),I tried logging in via ssh to the machine but it hang for ages after I input the username and password.

I tried logging in to the machine directly but got a 60 second timeout message, so I was forced to reboot it.

Has anyone come across something similar?

Is there any other info you would like me to provide?

Thanks in advance

If after rebooting all came to normal, just don’t worry. I also have seen
that when Internet link goes down (dsl) the servers are a bit more
irresponsive. Well, I guess is quite normal, just think on ntpd (NTP time)
daemon, Postfix and the rest of services trying to go online and failing.

Just review the logs (/var/log/warn, /var/log/messages
and /var/log/mail.info) and check that all things are playing o.k.

Greetings,

Camaleón

Thanks for the reply

Everything seems normal and I can’t find anything strange in the logs.

I would like to find out what went wrong so we can avoid a similar scenario in the future as the server is in a remote location

Thanks again
