Having a recent issue with my workstation, running Leap 15.6. If I manually lock my screen I can immediately get back in. However if I let my screen lock automatically, or I put my machine to sleep the lock screen can take 2-3 minutes before the password/login appears (if it appears, with sleep I’ve had to just ctrl+alt+f3 to reboot).
Not really sure what to look for here, its a fairly big machine with plenty of ram/memory so I don’t think its anything to do with that. When it hangs I get my login splash screen but no login fields.
openSUSE Leap 15.6
Intel i9-14900K
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 - 570.124.04
KDE Plasma 5.27.11
I have pretty much the same issue but I’m on Tumbleweed with a Nvidia 4080 card. Automatic lock screen will likely to render the machine a black screen with mouse only after waking up.
Ctrl+alt+f1 to reboot seems the only way out.
I tried logging out before locking/sleeping. Survival rate increases a bit but plasma session would break after some random time (missing taskbar, missing window button, dead UI button/keyboard shortcuts)
This problem started about month ago. Nvidia driver 570 increased black screen survival rate over 550 but it is still very bad.

Suppose this started roughly around the same time. I just updated to the 570 drivers yesterday and don’t notice a difference. From sleep it will not get back to a login screen now, just black. If it auto locks I can still log in but it will sit at the login splash screen with no user name/login for few minutes. No odd graphical issues that I can see, just sitting there thinking about something.
Its very frustrating, I have to let my screen lock after a few minutes for security reasons.

Found some other suggestions online to add nvidia-drm.modeset=1
to grub. This makes no difference.
Current state is that I cannot get back to my login screen once my machine has gone to sleep. Get a mouse pointer, and have to ctrl+alt+f1 to a terminal to reboot. If my machine auto locks the screen, its 2-3 min till the login appears. However if I manually lock, its completely fine.
So what is the difference then between manually locking the screen, and letting it auto lock but not sleep??
Try to disable Intel iGPU.
IMHO 200 GiB swap is too much. Do you need it to be so big?

200gb is high, but I do heavy vfx and it can sometimes go into swap.
How can I disable the igpu? Is that in the motherboard bios? Not sure why that would matter but willing to try anything now.
