When you tried GNOME Wayland earlier, did it actually start successfully, or did it return to the GDM login screen as well?

Hi, yes I get the same behavior at the initial GUI login screen selecting Gnome, Gnome-Classic, or MATE.

I cleaned up all that old application autostart messages then tried again, using MATE:
