Log in upon boot

I’m sure this will be a forehead slapper but I got to ask anyhow. Is there a way to have a log in dialog box come up when booting, like Ubuntu does? I don’t like the computer just booting up. I feel dumb for asking this but all the Boolean search criteria came up empty handed. Version is 11.4 Thanks

Hi
Disable autologin via YaST /etc/sysconfig editor. Search on autologin when in the editor.

Yep I poked around some more after posting. It was a forehead slapper thanks. doo!

And you choose for that Automatic login yourself when you installed. It is something you can uncheck during installation.

(I post this only because you then have to slap your forehead again lol! )

I think this is what I want to do but the other way around. I had no log in, someone suggested I add another user to try something. I remember being asked that the autologin would be disabled but when I finished testing as the other user and deleted that account, the autologin did not come back. Now I have to sign in every time. I can’t find the place to enable autologin in YaST but I don’t understand your instruction. There are lots of files in the /etc/sysconfig. Which one is the editor?
Thanks from an advanced newbie.

Yast -> system -> /etc/sysconfig editor.

Or use the search feature in yast.

Click on that module, make it search for the autologin variable.

You have to edit one file there. There is no editor there.

Thank you!

That worked great here.
