Laptop Specs: MSI GT735, AMD Turion X2, ATI radeon HD 3850. When I attempt to install OpenSuse, the laptop locks up and the screen blanks right after it flashes Probing EDD. I’ve tried all the options I could find in the forum with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks.
can you specify your openSUSE dvd version
bcoz the ati radeon drivers really work in 11.1…
11.1/64 bit. Just downloaded it this morning.
as your information is correct…
while probing EDD it really flashes . but would return back to the screen after searching for the devises on your laptop…
did u wait for a while or just quit from the installation?
I press enter for “Install”. Kernel loads, screen clears and displays Probing EDD… for about 0.5 seconds. After that, the screen goes blank and laptop is locked up. I’ve waited as longs as 15 minutes for it to respond.
Update. I tried installing using VESA mode. This shows me the text on the screen before lock-up. Last few lines on the screen are as follows:
pci 0000:00:13.2: PME# supported from D0 D1 D2 D3hot
pci 0000:00:13.2: PME# disabled
disabled boot interrupts on PCI device 0x1002:0x4385
pci 0000:00:14.2: PME# supported from D0 D3hot D3cold
pci 0000:00:14.2: PME# disabled
I waited 15 or so minutes and it continued with loading drivers. I now have the main preparation and installation screen loaded. So, I suppose the key is to wait for a few minutes. thanks for help.
please do a try by checkmedia option while you boot your dvd…
i’m trying to help you… as much as i can imagine about your problem…
it may give some errors according to your probelm…
note: check your laptop date
Laptop is 3 days old. Did you see my last post. I solved the issue. I Installed with VESA option and waited for laptop to respond after it appears to lock-up.
congratulations
have a fine time
Thanks. Installation completed and rebooted. It continues to hang right at the same place for a few minutes. If anyone knows how to fix that, let me know. Thanks.
try updating your ati drivers from 9.1 to 9.2
