Hi to you all,
I’ve downloaded opensuse 11.0 and I am using an external cdrom. When I boot the live cd (even with failsafe) The proccess hangs saying it can’t find the image in /cdrom. I have opensuse 10.3 installed.
Please help.
Sounds like you’ve got a bad cd try downloading it again and burn a new copy

no, no, the cd is fine i’ve booted it on several other pc’s and laptops. I think it’s the external cdrom that’s not mounted. It boots from bios but when the boot screen of the live cd shows up and i choose opensuse failsafe, it loads the kernel, then starts to print some stuff, then it says mounting cd/dvd. then an error i press alt+f4/f5 and the debug’s say that the cd was recognised but it’s not mounted to /cdrom. I press alt+f2 and type cd /cdrom, ls. Nothing in that directory.
Sounds like the liveCD doesn’t have the usb-storage drivers installed. The
system boots, initially using the bios usb-boot drive emulation, once it
“shifts” to using internal drivers, it loses the connection to the cdrom.
Reconfigured one of my machines here to try to boot from an external USB
CD drive…
===Testing the openSUSE 11.0 KDE LiveCD:
Was able to recreate your error. Machine fails at “Mounting cdrom…”.
Looks like the usb drivers are failing to be installed, as my keyboard,
mouse, and drive all don’t work. Tried it several times with different boot
options. No luck. USB drivers not being loaded. (FAIL)
===Testing using Carlos Gonçalves’ KDE 3 LiveCD:
Identical results as the original openSUSE 11.0 KDE LiveCD. (FAIL)
===Testing using the openSUSE 11.0 GNOME LiveCD:
Identical results as the original openSUSE 11.0 KDE LiveCD. (FAIL)
===Testing using the openSUSE 11.0 KDE NET install CD:
System booted from external USB CD, initialized USB systems, continued
booting into installer. (WORKS)
This last one only applies if you’ve got an external DVD reader…
===Testing using the openSUSE 11.0 KDE DVD:
System booted from external USB CD, initialized USB systems, continued
booting into installer. (WORKS)
Looks like your best bet is to use the NET install CD, or one of the install
DVD’s if your external drive supports it.
From what I can see, the KIWI setup used to create the boot systems for the
various LiveCD’s has a bug in which the usb drivers aren’t being loaded. Of
course, they’ll work fine in a system with an internal CD/DVD drive.
