I’ve decided to try openSUSE again, but I’m having trouble with the LiveCD. I’ve tried both “linux” and “root” which has been mentioned in many places but neither works.
To login with root
there is no password, just hit enter

where are you running into a need to log in? when does the log in
requirement come up? what does it look like (blace/white or green)?
normally, the live CDs from software.opensuse.org do not require any
password to get to a fully functional desktop running directly off the
booted from CD…
where did you CD/DVD come from?
the major exceptions to that occur when (for example):
-
you are using an install disk made by someone other than the
community, in which case you need to follow THEIR instructions -
your machine doesn’t have enough RAM to support the selected
desktop environment -
your graphics card is not supported
-
the install disk has errors and is garbage
-
you have some bad RAM somewhere
-
and probably some other things i don’t think of at this second…
anyway, in some/most of THOSE cases you will get a black screen and a
log in prompt…THAT means you have a PROBLEM…but, the problem is
not not having a password, it is usually a hardware problem OR the
disk you are booting from is faulty, did you do this
http://tinyurl.com/yajm2aq before trying to boot to the desktop, or
installing? (if you did not, do it now and if it is corrupt come back
and ask and i give you a short part to follow to happiness)
does your machine meet the minimum specifications for hardware?

My system meets the requirements. As for what the screen looks like, it shows some openSUSE background with some stuff and at the bottom it asks me to login. It says “linux login:”. I have tried typing both “linux” and “root” and then hitting enter. I have already stated I have done this. It is a LiveCD and I did get it from the official website.
I think the disc is faulty to be honest. Out of 9 tries of booting it, it’s done this 6. It has been able to success fully start once. I’ll try and re-burn it later. I’ll give my results when I do. If it matters, here are my specs.
HP Pavilion dv7:
AMD Turion II Ultra Dual-Core M620(64bit)
ATI Radeon HD 4200
There is a media check option when you boot the CD- You should do that First!

Reburning fixed the problem, that will teach me to use GnomeBaker. Back to K3B and it’s dependencies…
