Live USB questions

Hi,

I would like to follow the instructions in this link to create a live USB of openSUSE 11.3, but before I do I have a couple of questions I would like to ask about the general operation of the finished article:

  • Can updates for openSUSE or any other applications/packages already installed on the USB be updated like any normal installation of openSUSE, or will the fact it sits on a live USB somehow prevent that from working? I know that creating a live USB of any of the Linux distros supported by this tool, for example, only partially supports applying updates to the finished installation but nothing major such as kernel updates; hence this question.

  • [Same question as above, but for (un)installation of (new) applications/packages in general].

  • If I were to install openSUSE on another machine from the live USB, would it install a fresh copy or would some of the saved files/settings from the persistence be included?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Regards,

Jon.

You are placing a ISO image on the drive and booting from that. There is simply no room to add persistence. ie it is functionally the same as a CD.
