Live Upgrading

With the RC out, live updating is mentioned as being supported now. Im wondering if anyone has tried it and experiences that could be shared.
I would love to use this feature to go from 11.1 to 11.2. Although Im skeptical though on how it all works, i.e. what happens when 11.2 doesnt have the package 11.2 did. Does it keep the 11.1 package or drop it.

I have not tried updating from 11.1 to 11.2 so I cannot answer your
question; however ‘sudo zypper dup’ worked going from 11.2 M7 to 11.2
M8, and now from 11.2 M8 to 11.2 RC1.

When you upgraded from M8 to RC1, didn’t you have to change repository
names beforehand? It seems that e.g.

http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/oss/

has been renamed to

http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2*-RC1*/repo/oss/

No, I did ‘sudo zypper dup’! Any repo changes were handled internally.

I did the M8 to RC1 update via zypper dup, and everything went just fine[li]
[/li]
I even stopped the upgrading process several times (Ctrl+C) just to see what will happen, and zypper smartly continued every time from the point where it was stopped.

[*] Except for a few problems after reboot, but the very upgrading process finished without problems.

I think beta version to another beta is one thing, but from a previous release to 11.2 release is something completely different.
Im starting to think that if I do update it might still be a fresh install.

I tested within my VM.

Running openSUSE 11.1 and tried to “dup” to the latest factory available.

After an hour or so, console where “zypper dup” was running in, crashed
(quitted) which left the system in a unstable state (most of the packages
were deleted) so the upgrade could not be accomplished.

Had to revert back to the latest stable VM snapshot.

I did zypper dup from 11.1 > 11.2 Milestone 7
I had no probs.
There were probably a few depency things, nothing serious.
Everything got solved in no time at all.

That was my sandbox machine 32 bit.
