Live CD Login

I’m trying the Live CD before I actually install openSUSE 11.2.

After everything loads up on my machine which is a 64-bit machine with 4 GB of RAM, it comes to a login prompt.

I downloaded the Live-64 bit KDE CD ISO. What should I be using for the login when I am booting only a live CD environment and not installing the system in my hard drive?

I’ve installed several Linux installations before, and ran several Live CD’s before, but, to my knowledge, none have ever asked for a login.

Thanks!

try

root

the password is blank, just hit enter again

after this try typing startx
If you don’t get UI come back and I’ll advise

Thanks,

I should have remembered that!

I am testing the x86 Live CD on my wife’s computer right now, and really like the looks of it!

I’m going to try that on my 64-bit machine next.

Thanks.

Well, this is really strange.

The 2nd time I ran the Live CD, the GUI started, and I didn’t get the plain text startup screen like I did the first time!

Thanks again for reminding me of a basic Linux fact though!

Can’t forget about that root.

root login should never be used on an installed system!

The difference in one boot and the next can be down to hardware detection. If this presents itself on an installed system you may need help to prevent it

On the official openSUSE livecd , one can use the username “linux” (no quotes) and <enter> as the password.
