Linux noob needs help ;)

Hi guys,
i am totaly new to linux and i do have some quesitons:

  1. is there such thing as a “linux/opensuse wiki” for noobs ?!
  2. if not, where and how do i configure my internet settings(as ip, gatway, subnet, dns server). I actualy found some setting options, but… well, nothing changed. maby this is because i dont really know what to enter where…

  1. YaST > Network Devices > Network Settings, select device and Edit

but if you have a broadband modem/router, the default setting of DHCP should just work.

This is assuming your device was detected and the driver works. Wired interfaces would have a high chance of just working unless a very new chip. Wireless may be more hassle.

Some use a network manager because they have to switch frequently between networks. If you have a stable environment like a home or a work LAN, then a network manager is unnecessary and something of a burden and those folk use the Yast tool that ken_yap advised.
