linux newbie...wifi card not showing up...

hi there new to linux and trying to get everything up and running right. i have a D-Link Air Plus DWL-520+ card and i plug it in the pci slot and boot up and it doesnt show up under network adapters. i did plug it in after the install of opensuse. im a windows guy and used to the system finding new hardware. ive gone threw the control panel and yast menus and cant seem to find anything relating to adding/installing new hardware. any help would be great. thank you!

Look at this thread.

But, before you do anything, look at the last post.

The search for your card gives lots of results.

i searched and i found the post with the same exact card that i have… but in that post the card shows up on that users system. mine does not. when i boot up my card does not show up on my system. so that is my first question. how do i get my computer to recognize my wifi card. thanks.

Vendors have a very nasty habit of changing the chip in wireless
devices without changing the name/number, and sometimes not even the
version. Of course, the driver is dependent on the wireless chip.

You need to issue the command ‘/sbin/lspci -nnv’, find the stanza
that describes your wireless device and post that. Do not post the
entire output of that command.
