linux log in/password on hard disk boot

I’m a total newbie, when I try to boot from hard disk rather than CD, I’m asked for a Linux Login and Password. How do I find what these are?

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

What did you set for them? If this is a full login screen with
username/password they are values you (or somebody else in charge of the
box) set during the installation. Worst-case scenario you can rebuild
the box.

Good luck.
