It’s wrong from the RSS feed that is pulled in here - GIGO again.
The most current advisory I find is at
http://www.novell.com/linux/security/advisories/2011_20_kernel.html
but I don’t know if that’s the right one.

The feed comes from
http://www.novell.com/linux/security/advisories.html
I submitted feedback that the link for this advisory is 404. If these
show up in the future, feel free to check this page and submit feedback
so the right people are notified.

I don’t think so. I think it’s more likely to be:
<http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2011-06/msg00016.html>
or
<http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2011-06/msg00017.html>

i just checked my bank statement and easily confirmed i’m not being paid
to either proof read for nor gently nudge anyone with a suse.de or
novell mailing address that they proof, prior to posting…

You took the time to post here that the link was wrong, now you know
where to tell those who can actually fix it.

The RSS feed points to (and comes from) the www.novell.com site, not the
opensuse-security-announce list.

And if you bother to look at the content, instead of the URL, what do
you see?
You see that they just repeat the opensuse-security-announce list.
And if you actually check the feed now, you’ll see the missing page has
been supplied and the content is indeed the first link I gave.
Cheers, Dave
PS Your mail program seems to have broken the <url> formatting. What
are you using?

You have to understand that the RSS feed is picked up and posted
automatically here, Dave. When a bad URL gets posted here, it’s because
of the feed, not because of the mailing list.

Yes, but that’s not what feeds the posts in this forum.

I’m glad it’s been fixed.

I use pan, and sometimes forget to turn off line wrapping when I’m
posting longer URLs, so it wraps them.

Of course I understand that; you’re missing the point. But the whole
point of posting the feed is to provide security information in a timely
fashion to readers of this forum.
So when the automatic mechanism broke (perhaps because of a human
failing elsewhere?), and you suggested a link to the ‘proper’ website
that contained the wrong security information, I felt it was necessary
to post a link to the correct security information, regardless of which
website it’s hosted on.

It begs the question of why? This is after all an opensuse forum and the
opensuse security list, which is the original source of these
announcements, provides its own RSS feed at
<http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/mailinglist.rss>
So why not source the feed directly from there?

Fair enough.

I wasn’t aware of that feed, and I’m sure the person who set it up
wasn’t, either. I’ll suggest the update, thanks.

IMHO, it would be best to replicate the full contents of the post, not a
link to it.

Yes, I agree. But I thought that might be a step too far to follow

I think you can send an nntp post from an email, from CLI, so that part is
easy. The forum part follows via gateway
